Real Support – One Step Forward

At Birmingham Community Support, we are leading this project to help women move forward. By partnering with local transport services, we provide travel passes that open doors to jobs, social events, and new friendships. Our director, Fanniza, listens closely to every woman to ensure we meet their real needs. We know that a bus pass is just the start. Women also need active guidance and a friendly hand to walk with them on their journey. Real change happens when we truly understand each woman's life experience. We offer support rooted in empathy and kindness. This project is built on equality, diversity and inclusion for all women, whatever their language, background or confidence level. We provide equality, diversity and inclusion by welcoming all women, respecting different backgrounds and languages, and making sure everyone has a fair chance to join in.

My Bus Pass, My New Beginning

After I received my bus pass, I realised there is so much out there – different opportunities and meeting new people. I felt isolated and I’m trying my best to create a career path. I’ve always been shy and struggled to communicate.Having a free bus pass is not about saving money. It is about feeling that someone believed in me enough to remove one big barrier. On this journey I realised I’m not the only mum who feels like this – there are others too. It’s not just about someone guiding you or supporting you along the way. It’s about everything – being seen, being understood, and being truly listened to.

What a Bus Pass Makes Possible

A bus pass is a tool. The real impact is in the doors it opens.

At Birmingham Community Support, we’ve helped women access free bus passes, making it easier for them to get around, attend learning opportunities, and build their confidence in everyday life.

COMMUNITY

FAMILY & WELL-BEING

Women shared that having a free bus pass made it easier to attend career events and workshops. This has helped them explore opportunities, build confidence, and take steps towards employment.

Women shared that having a free bus pass helped them connect with others and feel part of a supportive community. They spoke about encouraging one another, sharing their experiences, and feeling stronger together. This has improved their wellbeing and helped them feel less alone.

Through our support, women told us that access to a free bus pass has helped them spend more quality time with their children, including going on outings together.
Some mums shared that travelling with their children has helped them build confidence in managing journeys, including taking multiple buses. they said this has supported them in stepping out of their comfort zone and building daily routines.
Women told us this has helped them feel more prepared for the future, especially when thinking about work, balancing responsibilities, and managing travel with their children.

At Birmingham community support, we’ve seen that access to a free bus pass can create real and meaningful change in women’s lives. it’s not just about travel,it’s about building confidence, strengthening connections, and supporting women to move forward.

We asked women what changed for them after receiving a bus pass. Their answers show that support is not just about the card, but about how life feels after.

  • Many women said they now attend more workshops and feel their skills growing.
  • Some shared that they feel less isolated and more part of the community.

What Women Told Us

  • Others said they can now take their children to activities without extra stress.
  • A few spoke about feeling safer and more confident travelling on their own.

Impact of Bus Pass Use – Detailed View: This chart illustrates the primary areas where women reported the most significant positive impact on their daily lives and overall well-being. From education to community connection, the bus pass serves as a key enabler for growth.

What Real Support Really Means

Support is not only giving a resource like a bus pass. Real support means thinking about what that tool allows a person to do. For the women we work with, a bus pass can mean:

• Freedom to move without fear of the cost

• Access to learning and language support

• Time and space to breathe outside the home

• Shared moments with children and friends

• A step toward confidence and independence

• Able to explore wider opportunities.

                   • Learn how to use google to track location of buses and the times.

•Able to learn how to manage between household chores and taking step out of comfort zone.

“When we give a tool and also give meaning, we say: You deserve to be here. Your journey matters.”

Collaboration – One Step Forward

This project is one small example of what happens when local authorities and community groups work together. A simple tool, used with care and understanding, can move a whole family one step forward.

At Birmingham Community Support, we want to keep building these kinds of partnerships – where support is not just a number on a form, but a real change in daily life.
