Past Workshops and Community Memories

Small local projects creating big changes in confidence, connection and eco-care.

Our friendly learning sessions are tailored to what women and children in our city truly need. From language support and confidence-building to practical skills and family fun, each workshop is shaped by your own ideas and real-life goals. We make sure every session feels helpful, exciting and full of positive energy for everyone who joins us.

In our first session on sustainable fashion, we turned old clothes into new treasures. While looking at waste, we discussed how to protect our planet. We also saw that many women were facing challenges with low mood or self-esteem. By tailoring our support to each person’s needs, we made sure everyone felt truly cared for and included in the group.

The Healthy Mind & Healthy Body project grew from my time spent talking with local women. When I asked them to share something about themselves, many found it hard to even say their own name. This showed me how powerful a name is—it is the heart of who you are and a gateway to sharing your unique talents and skills with the world.

"Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful." (Qur’an 17:27) This session explores how we can avoid waste, respect our blessings and care for the environment through creative upcycling and using our resources mindfully.

We focus on building self-worth, relieving stress and the joy of nature. These gentle sessions help women recognise their own value and find a positive new path for their personal journey in a safe and supportive space.

This session looks at managing the cost of living and reducing food waste. We learn simple, practical ways to save money and use ingredients wisely. Together, we share tasty recipes for leftovers so that less food ends up in the bin and more goes toward feeding our families well.

We encouraged mums and young people to connect with nature through fun activities in local parks, looking at how we can all have a positive impact on the beautiful world around us.

Our workshops offer a warm space for Birmingham women to tackle food waste by turning leftovers into tasty family meals. We teach you how to cook creatively with what you have in the cupboard, helping you save money while we look after the planet together.

Many women shared happy memories of how their own mums managed during difficult times. "Eat of their fruit when they ripen… and do not be wasteful. Indeed, He does not like those who waste. (Qur’an 6:141)"

For our picnic day, we had a lovely mix of ages. Young people aged 12 to 18 helped look after the smaller children, all under the gentle supervision of their mums and our team. As director, I made sure the day was safe and fun. Our goal was to help children grow in independence and show mums how to support their little ones as they develop in their own unique way.

Mums and children enjoyed discovering how to care for creatures like birds, butterflies and bees. We talked about why nature matters to us all and how we can work together to create safe homes for wildlife in our own gardens.

This session welcomed people of all ages, faiths and backgrounds. Together as a community, we shared a lovely time exploring the many benefits of being in nature.

Through our shared values, we connected with many people and enjoyed lots of laughs.

These sessions are supported by faith-based funding that values caring for our earth. They invite us to reflect on the Qur’an’s teachings about protecting creation and avoiding waste. While the funding is rooted in my own faith, I have made sure this space is open and warm for everyone in Birmingham. We are a diverse community, and we make sure every woman feels welcome and included.

Session Updates

Youth Workshops: we dive into creative art by turning recycled materials into amazing projects. Kids build new skills while enjoying pizza, juice, and ice cream, finishing with team games designed to spark new local friendships.

Gaining: problem solving, upcycling techniques, group collaboration, and the self-assurance to try new creative things.

Sundays in May and June: 31st, 7th, and 14th. Join us via the registration form.

Our walking group goes beyond exercise. We noticed that everyone has a different pace and many women feel less confident walking on their own. So we walk in pairs or groups of three, and no one feels left out.

This project helps women build confidence, improve wellbeing and feel less isolated.

Our Stories

Our journeys show how much we can achieve when we support one another. These stories reflect the growth and hope of the women in our Birmingham family.

Your Name – A Journey to Belonging

They created keyrings to honour the power of their names and what means to them. Their names are a bold statement of identity, reminding them to stand tall, value themselves and speak up for their own needs.

Stitching Dreams and Making Bonds

During our crochet session, the ladies enjoyed relaxed chats about themselves — their stories, dreams and interests. As they stitched together, they built friendships, shared laughter and found a calm space to feel seen and valued.

Old Games and Shared Moments

Down memory lane, the women felt relaxed and enjoyed playing different board games. It was a gentle break from daily stress, a chance to sit with new friends and enjoy simple, comforting company.

Finding a Voice Through Words

Building confidence in their own language is vital. Language is part of who we are and gives us a voice. By encouraging the ladies to speak first in their own language, they learn to trust themselves, and then build English words to form sentences.

Self-Care – A Moment for Us

The importance of treating ourselves kindly is a key part of our well-being. The ladies enjoyed having a small treat just for themselves.
